It’s no secret that Miley Cyrus has had an interesting past few months. Fans could not believe it in early August 2019 when Cyrus and her soon-to-be ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, announced that they are splitting up. The couple had been on-again and off-again for the better part of a decade, and they had been married for less than a year. Still, things run their course, and their split, in the end, seemed to be a long time coming.
However, fans weren’t expecting to watch Cyrus jump into a fling with her good friend Kaitlynn Carter. Just days after her split with Hemsworth was announced, the songstress was seen canoodling across the globe with Carter. The pair attend the MTV Video Music Awards together, New York Fashion Week, and were seen all across Los Angeles giving PDA. Unfortunately, Carter ended up being much more into the relationship that Cyrus was. After just six weeks, Cyrus pulled the plug on the romance.
While most of us expected the “Slide Away” songstress to focus on herself and her career, just as she ended things with Carter, she began dating Australian singer, Cody Simpson. Since October 2019 —the pair have been head over heels in love. They’ve showcased their romance on social media, in interviews, and by wearing symbols of the love they share for one another. But why does Cyrus’ relationship with Simpson work so well?
Miley Cyrus felt like she couldn’t be herself with Liam Hemsworth
Though they obviously loved one another — Cyrus and Hemsworth outgrew each other. The pair met back in 2009 when they were just teens. Now, more than a decade later, they are very different people. In fact, as Cyrus has come out of her shell, expressing herself and her sexuality, Hemsworth has become increasingly more conservative.
“She just got to the point where she didn’t want to hold back about who she is,” an insider told People. “She wants to be true to herself. Being with Liam, this was just not possible. For them to be happy, she had to change as a person too much. She knows not being with Liam will make her happier in the long run.”
Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson’s relationship isn’t out of the blue
Despite what fans may think —Cyrus and Simpson have been close friends for years. Their familiarity and friendship only enrich the romance that they share with one another.
The Australian-born singer explained to People, “The reason why it hasn’t been a really crazy sudden thing is just because we’ve been friends for so long….[We] found each other again in a space where we’re both not partying, working real hard, and it just keeps things healthy and it’s good.”
This is why Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson’s relationship works
While Cyrus felt like she couldn’t be herself with Hemsworth and she and Carter were bonding over their respective breakups — Cyrus and Simpson share something deeper. When rumors swirled about a breakup, the “golden thing” singer put them to bed by sharing an adorable photo of Baby Miley that he uses as his phone lock screen.
“[Miley] feels very liberated and free to be herself,” a source told HollywoodLife. “He’s just like her, he’s an open book when it comes to sharing with his fans. Cody is so proud to be with Miley he’s practically shouting it from the rooftops. She feels completely adored by him, it really doesn’t get any better.”
It looks like these two are in this for good.
