Fans did a double take after the apparent return of the jewelry piece, when the reality TV star shared Instagram photos of herself decked in bling to promote her KKW Fragrance Diamonds Collection last week.
According to ET and People, one of Kardashian’s rings in the photos resembles her second engagement ring, given to her by husband Kanye West in 2016. The outlets report the 20-carat ring was stolen during the armed robbery.
In an interview with ET published Wednesday, Kardashian set the record straight. Turns out, the pieces she wore weren’t the ones that were stolen.
“I borrowed all jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz. It was nice to borrow it all and nice to give it back to her,” she said of the pieces she wore for the photos. “That was a really fun shoot and because it was diamonds. I thought this was the perfect way to bring it back and wear them again.”
Kardashian West added she’s borrowed from Schwartz before, because the jewelry designer, who created both engagement rings, “always knows the cut and everything that I really wanted.”
“So when I want to wear something, I’ll borrow it from her for the day,” she said. “There is a replica around. A little fake that I’ll borrow from her sometimes that she made. A really nice one.”
Officials told the Associated Press in 2016 that armed assailants tied Kardashian up and locked her in a bathroom during the robbery. The thieves left with more than $10 million of jewelry, police said. The list of taken items included a jewelry box containing valuables worth $6.7 million, as well as a ring worth $4.5 million, according to the AP.
None of the stolen property was ever recovered.
